What are the benefits of credit unions?

When you join a credit union you become a member and part of that credit union’s financial family. Unlike banks, credit unions do NOT have investors who are looking to make a profit. Rather, every member owns one share of the credit union. So as not-for-profit institutions, credit unions prioritize their members’ financial well-being over profit. And just like banks, credit unions are also federally insured [by the National Credit Union Association] and are just as safe as banks.

Credit unions set affordable fees for members. Their goals is to help members rather than please profit-seeking shareholders.

Similarly, credit unions are able to offer lower loan rates for everything from auto to mortgage loans and more.

Credit unions are much more willing to work with members to build or rebuild their credit where banks frequently have very strict, inflexible requirements.

When you save at a credit union, you're likely to enjoy higher interest rates than you would at a bank.

Credit unions routinely provide financial education to help members better manage their finances and establish a strong financial foundation.

These are just a few of the many benefits of credit union membership. If you aren't already a member, First U.S. welcomes you as a new member!
